Job Overview
Provide a world class product and service experience for our external and internal clients using excellent interpersonal, communication, project management and problem-solving skills to maximize use of Marchex Analytics and Messaging offerings. Marchex Sales Engineers are highly competent software and business generalists who share knowledge during all stages of the sales process, implementation process, and software development lifecycle.

Job Impact
The Marchex Sales Engineer is engaged with many of our strategic clients and prospects. Additionally, this position has a unique role in having direct influence on product direction, sales direction, implementation activities and processes, and ongoing operations. Sales Engineers are on the front lines with Business Development teams to ensure the alignment of our products to best suit our client’s needs and have a direct relationship with the Product and Engineering team to help shape and create the vision of our products.

The Sales Engineering team at Marchex is engaged on some of the hardest problems at the intersection of business and technology; Sales Engineering is the link between the Business and Product & Engineering groups at Marchex. The Sales Engineering team ensures Marchex technology is accessible to internal and external stakeholders, creates and supports the implementation of customized solutions to meet specific customer needs, and strives to deliver a world class customer experience.

Outline of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in sales and account calls as the product expert and provide input to customers on ways to maximize the benefit of our products.
  • Own the technical sale.
  • Maintain extensive functional and technical knowledge of Marchex offerings to serve as the technical expert.
  • Equip prospects and customers to successfully implement best practices when deploying Marchex solutions whether through UI or API scenarios.
  • Enable new sales with creative demo applications, proof-of-concepts, and/or custom integrations of Marchex products.
  • Recognize patterns with customer issues/inquiries and define and make recommendations for feature changes accordingly.
  • Understand the competitive and partner landscape and be able to speak to and work effectively with those companies.
  • Develop and maintain a solid knowledge of Marchex products and translate what you’ve learned into useful documentation.
  • Research and answer customer inquiries, run ad hoc reports, analyze results, perform market analysis, and participate in the post release verification process. 
  • Partner with the Product and Marketing groups to translate customer needs into new product feature and service ideas.
  • Support the Guiding Principles and vision of the company and the team through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors.
  • Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or another engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years in a technical business support team or technical selling role.
  • A firm understanding of the technology stacks common to the Web ecosystem. A working knowledge of Java, .Net, Ruby, Python, JavaScript or some other modern, general purpose programming language.
  • Excellent technical and nontechnical verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Consultant, or Solutions Architect in the technology or the Online Advertising industry.
  • Strong analytical and logical thinking skills.
  • Multi-tasking capability and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Works well in high-pressure situations including significant demands on time and resources.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proven ability to develop expertise with technical products.
  • Strong work ethic and proven success in working as part of a team or independently.
  • Experience using MS Office Suite including strong Excel and Power Point required.
  • SQL skills are a strong plus.
  • Online Marketing experience and Telco technology a plus.

Working Conditions     
The is a remote position. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day.  Corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.

*Compensation
($130,000 - $160,000 USD)

The compensation range listed above may include base salary and short and/or long-term incentives. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
